Developments intransportation cause an increase in the number of traffic accidents. Today,more attention should be given to human than the vehicles in respect of traffic,and the need of a humanistic understanding should be accepted. As in the rest ofthe world, traffic accidents are a significant challenge in Turkey. Drivers,passengers and pedestrians are injured in traffic accidents. This study includesthe accidents in which pedestrians were injured at the city center of Diyarbakir.In the study, injured pedestrian accidents in the city are examined according tothe information of the accident fact-finding reports written by traffic police.The aim of the study is to determine the fault situations of the pedestrians anddrivers. The information taken from the accident fact-finding reports wasassessed with graphics and tables on Microsoft Excel program. In Diyarbakir 3593 accidents occurred, between 2003-2004. In these accidents, 14 people losttheir lives, 1 125 people were injured. An increase of 49 % in the number ofaccidents was observed during 2004, with respect to 2003. Between 2003-2004,339 injured pedestrian accidents occuring at the city center of Diyarbakir wereobserved by taking into account the parameters like accident place and date,weather and day conditions, road and environmental features, vehicles, driversviiand pedestrians involved in the accidents.
