Abstract (EN)

The aim of this study is to analyze and determine the tendencies of thesis and article researches made in the field of learning algebra in the secondary school mathematics curriculum in Turkey between 2005 and 2021. The study conducted for this purpose is a systematic compilation study based on the analysis of the collected data by identifying the studies in the literature. The scope of the study consists of 110 theses and 101 articles reached by using Google Academic, TÜBİTAK Ulakbim and Yöktez databases. Researches were examined in genre, publication year, university/publishing journal, sub-learning domain of algebra, purpose, measured feature, research method used, research design used, sample type, sample size, data collection tool and data analysis method. When the researches included in the study are examined in general; As a type, it has been concluded that theses are more than articles and master's theses are more than doctoral theses. It has been determined that the most thesis was done in 2019, the article in 2020, and the least in 2005, and the number of researches has increased especially in the last 5 years. It was determined that the most postgraduate theses on the subject were made at Atatürk and Uludağ Universities, while Gazi and Kastamonu Universities took the second place. It was determined that the highest number of articles were published in Kastamonu Education Journal, while Primary Education Online and Turkish Computer and Mathematics Education Journals ranked second. Most of the research was conducted to reveal the effect of a certain method in the field of learning algebraic expressions and in theses, and to examine the knowledge and skill formation processes of the students in the articles. Considering the features measured in the study, it was seen that the most emphasized feature was student achievement, while attitudes towards mathematics, algebraic thinking skills/level, misconceptions, detection of errors and difficulties were other frequently measured features. Quantitative research method was mostly used in the studies on the algebra learning field of the secondary school mathematics course, and the experimental-semi-experimental design, which is one of the quantitative research designs, was preferred the most in the theses, and the case study, one of the qualitative research designs, was preferred in the articles. Screening studies are also among the frequently used research designs. In the studies, generally 7th grade students were studied and the studies were mostly carried out with the number of participants ranging from 31-100 students. Achievement tests were the most preferred data collection tool in the studies, and it was determined that the alternative test group consisting of knowledge, skill, concept, algebra and problem tests was one of the frequently used data collection tools. Finally, it has been determined that in the studies conducted in the field of learning algebra in secondary school mathematics, t-test is generally used in quantitative data analysis methods in theses and descriptive statistics in articles. In the second place, content analysis, one of the qualitative data analysis methods in theses and articles, takes place. It was concluded that non-parametric tests from quantitative data analysis methods and descriptive analysis from qualitative data analysis methods are among the frequently used methods. According to the results obtained, it is recommended to conduct researches using different methods or techniques and having more participants.
