Computer aided match analysis of corner kicks used in Turkcell Super League in the games played in 2006-2007

The purpose of this study is to examine the differences between home and visiting teams in regard to corner kicks. In this study computerized game analysis of 15 games played by 13 teams selected randomly from Turkcell Super League was conducted. In the study the penalty area was been divided into six areas and in order to find the dangerous zone corner kicks used by home and visiting teams has been examined in terms of differences and percentages of the kicks directed to these areas. The differences were analysed regarding to number of used corner kicks from either right or left side, corner kicks used in the first or second half, and how many times goal keepers, defense players, or offense players met with the ball. The Games were analyzed with e-analysis game analysis programme. At the analysis of the data SPSS 12.0 packet program was used, and in order to find if there is a statistically significant difference between the results the independent t-test was conducted. When we looked at distribution of corner kicks used we saw that visiting teams sent the corner kicks at 2nd area (8.84 %) and 3nd area (62,6 %)- ?front target area? where the shoot angle is the biggest-. There is no difference in terms of the other areas. No difference was found between corner kicks in the first and in the second half. While in terms of goal keepers? meeting with the ball there was difference in favor of visiting team, in terms of the same scale a difference was found again in favor of visiting team. In addition home team offense players met with the ball more than those of visiting team. Key words: Game analysis, corner kick, soccer
