2006 and 2018 analysis of social studies teaching degree programs and academic views

In the study, the Social Studies Education Undergraduate Program, which was put into force in 2018, was analyzed and evaluated together with the 2006 Social Studies Education Program and suggestions were made. In the first stage of the research, 2018 Social Studies Education Undergraduate Program was compared with 2006 Program. Afterwards, discussions were held with 15 academicians working in the Social Studies Education Department of five different universities about the 2018 Social Studies Teaching Program. Maximum diversity of objective sampling methods wasused, takingin to consideration the different titles and fields of study of academics. The case science method, one of the qualitative research patterns, was used in the study. The data obtained from the interviews were separated into themes and the results were interpreted. The findings were supported by document analysis results. It was stated by the majority of academicians that the academicians were not received enough views during the process of the renewal of the program and that the information was given after the program became clear. At the point of transferring the 2018 program, academics considered themselves sufficient. On the other hand, the arrangements made for the field knowledge courses, the reduction of the course hours and application times were considered negative. The training emphasis on the program and the arrangement of vocational courses were welcomed by the academics. At this point, the difference of opinion among academicians, whose specialty is education and who are specialists in their field has attracted attention. While the regulation made in elective courses was welcomed due to unity among universities, it was also negatively welcomed due to physical differences between universities. It was emphasized that the increase in the time and hour of the teaching practice lesson was not only left to the fourth grade but also at other grade levels.
