The analysis of İzmir's foreign trade in 2007-2018

Today, with increasing international trade, intra-industry trade which is one of the new Foreign Trade Theories is quiete remarkable. At the 24th of JANUARY 1980 , with the transition to export-based industrialization strategy Turkey has accepted the open market economy and increased its foreign trade volume. The aim of this thesis is to analyse the foreign trade structure of Izmir and from this point of view to reach the policy recommendations which serve the development of the trade in Izmir. The increase in foreign trade volume does not always mean that there is a foreign trade surplus.Because foreign trade volume refers to both exports and imports. With the transition in the open market economy, increase in imports was greater than increase in exports.As a result of that, foreign trade deficit occured. The period of this thesis , while Turkey had foreign trade deficit for the last 10 years , it was more positive for Izmir. In 2017, the deficit has disappeared and has appeared surplus. By using the foreign trade indices, properties related to the structure of intra-industry trade of Izmir and the product groups with comparative advantage have been defined.
