Comparative analysis of 2013 8 th grade teog exeminationmathematics questions with respect to Singapore's PLSE examquestions

In this study, it is aimed to compare mathematics questions of 8th grade TEOG exam which is applied for the first time in 2013-2014 academic year and mathematics questions of PSLE ​​exam applied by Singapore education system which proved itself as education policy. Singapore is ranked in the top five in international exams such as PISA and TIMSS. Therefore, it is important to examine the similarities and differences between Turkey and Singapore's education policy and the test systems. When the results of the research are examined PSLE, TEOG1 and TEOG2 exams are mainly questions that require multi-step solution. Based on the degree of abstraction in the field of Geometry PSLE ​​(91.7%), TEOG1 (75%) and TEOG2 (75%) and in all three exams explanatory situations are donimant. In the field of numbers, it is seen that PSLE ​​(80.6%) explanatory situations, TEOG1 (81.3%) pure mathematics and TEOG2 (100%) all questions are pure mathematics and they differ. Since Probability-Statistics and Algebra fields were not included in the PSLE and TEOG1 exam syllabus, no questions has been asked. 50% of TEOG2 exam and 62.5% of algebra field consist of pure mathematics questions. According to the answer types, in the field of Geometry, the questions in TEOG1 and TEOG2 exam generally contain numerical answers. In the PSLE ​​exam, 58.4% of the questions consist of questions that require explanation and solution. In terms of cognitive competence, all the questions in the TEOG1 exam in the field of Geometry require conceptual understanding. In TEOG2 exam, 87.5% of the questions consist of conceptual comprehension and 12.5% ​​of the questions are focused on problem solving. In the PSLE exam, 58.3% were conceptual comprehension and the rest were problem-solving focused questions. In the field of numbers, 69.5% of the PSLE ​​exams are questions that require conceptual understanding. In TEOG exams, 68.8% consists of conceptual understanding, 18.7% consists of method application and 12.5% consists of problem-solving focused questions. Probability-Statistics and Algebra fields were not included in the PSLE and TEOG1 exam syllabus. In TEOG2 exam, all the questions in Probability-Statistics field require conceptual comprehension, whereas in Algebra field 62.5% consists of conceptual understanding, 25% problem solving and 12.5% method application.
