Evaluation of 2018 mathematics teaching program and lesson books within the context of digital, computer and information literacy

This study was carried out to determine the extent to which digital, computer and informatics literacy, among the 21st century skills, are included in the 2018 Mathematics Curriculum and 5, 6, 7 and 8th grade Mathematics textbooks. Document analysis, one of the qualitative research designs, was used in the study. Since the data were collected from printed and digital materials, this method was considered appropriate. In this research, the data were analyzed with content analysis used in qualitative research and document review. The research is limited to 7 mathematics textbooks and 2018 Mathematics curriculum, which are being taught to 5th, 6th, 7th and 8th grade students, published in EBA (Educational Information Network) in the 2022-2023 academic year. As a result of the research, with the help of the unit of analysis words, 21 achievements including digital, computer and informatics literacy skills were identified among the achievements in the mathematics curriculum. With 80.9 % the learning area of geometry and measurement is the part where the most gains are determined. 76.1% of the achievements identified in the program were achieved in the textbooks. There were 7 acquisitions that were not included in the curriculum but were determined in the textbooks. Contrary to the special publications in which digital, computer and informatics literacy skills are not evenly distributed in the mathematics textbooks, the density in the printed sources belonging to the MEB publications has been determined. Contents in the context of digital, computer and informatics literacy are mostly included in the activity section with 45.4% and in the examples section with 42.4%.
