Comparison of 2023 and 2024 life science Course Curriculums

Abstract (EN)

The aim of this research is to compare the 2023 and 2024 life studies course curricula in terms of program evaluation principles. This research was designed according to the case study model, which is one of the qualitative research methods. In this research, the data was carried out by documentary scanning. The obtained qualitative data were analyzed by descriptive analysis method. In this context, in this study, the 2023 and 2024 Life Studies Course Curricula were examined comparatively in terms of dimensions such as basic approach, achievements, skill and value education. Both programs offer student-centered, value-based and sensitive to individual differences structures and center life-related learning experiences. However, the 2024 program stands out with a more systematic, practice-oriented and holistic design in line with the Turkey Century Education Model. Contemporary components such as social-emotional learning, digital literacy, STEAM approach and interdisciplinary interaction have become evident in this program. While the 2023 program is structured more on conceptual skills and general competencies; The 2024 program focuses on behavioral, applied and life skills. In addition, reducing the number of learning outcomes, supporting the measurement-evaluation process gradually and with various tools, and integrating skills and values into the learning process reveal the innovative aspects of the 2024 program. As a result, the 2024 Life Science Curriculum offers a flexible, practice-based structure that supports cognitive, social, and emotional development in a holistic manner and aligns with contemporary educational approaches. In line with the findings obtained, it is recommended that teachers be supported with in-service training on social-emotional learning, digital literacy and interdisciplinary approaches; and that the measurement tools in the 2024 program be introduced with application examples.
