Abstract (EN)
Objective: The aim of this study was to determine the effects of perantal attitudes on self-esteem of young adults between 21-25. Materials and Methods: The study was conducted between the ages of 21-25 years and on 15-22 November 2019 in Efeler district of Aydın. The study is based on a quantitative and relational survey model with 398 young people who are aged 21-25 years. The questionnaire was prepared by the researcher to determine the socio-demographic characteristics of the participants, their parents' life and coexistence, their family relations during chilhood and adolescence and whether they experienced emotional or physical violence within the family. In addition,Parental Attitude Inventory and Rosenberg Self-Esteem Scale were used to measure the perceived parental attitudes of the participants. The data were evaluated with SPSS 22.0. The data were analysed as using Chi Square (χ2) tests. Findings: Participants had moderate self-esteem and democratic parental attitudes had a positive effect on self-esteem, whereas this effect was low. Factors such as family communication, family emotional violence and family physical violence were found to be influential variables on self-esteem Significant were obtained from statistical analyzes. Conclusion: Parental attitudes are effective on self-esteem. Therefore, in order to increase the self-esteem levels of individuals; Parentsshould be more democratic towards their children, effective and healthy domestic communication should be ensured and emotional and physical violence should be eliminated.
