Abstract (EN)
This study analyses the African continent, which is on the global political agenda. It focuses on the African continent in general and Kenya-Somalia relations in particular. The study, which deals with the border dispute between the two states, includes the historical origins and causal reasons of the border problem. This study, written from a security perspective, analyses how the unresolved border problem can actually cause security problems. It was stated that the security problem is not only national or regional but can evolve into a global dimension. Consisting of three principles, the Copenhagen School emphasizes securitization, sectoral analysis and regional security. There are five basic sub-principles when we look at the sectoral analysis part of these principles. These principles are military security, economic security, environmental security, social security and political security. It is precisely at this point that this thesis adds border security to these five principles. More precisely, this study has tried to bring a new approach to the literature by adding border security to the five sub-elements of the Copenhagen School's sectoral analysis. In order to understand border security, military security, economic security, environmental security, social security and political security must also be examined. In short, border security and these five principles are interlinked and were written in the context of the Kenya-Somalia border dispute. In this context, the approaches of international organisations to the problem will be examined, as well as its global dimension, addressing both regional and continental implications of the border problem. In summary, Security Issue and Border Security in 21st Century Africa: The Case of Kenya-Somalia Border Dispute have been investigated, and the current situation analysis has been made.
