Abstract (EN)
This study presents a comprehensive analysis of space activities across four sections, including the introduction and three main chapters. The introductory section addresses the historical background of space endeavors up to the Cold War period. It examines the evolution of astronomical observations and technological advancements from antiquity to the mid-20th century. By highlighting early rocket experiments, the contributions of pioneering scientists, and instances of international collaboration, the section demonstrates how these efforts laid the groundwork for future space exploration initiatives. The first chapter focuses on the intense space race between the United States and the Soviet Union during the Cold War period. Landmark events such as the launch of Sputnik and the Moon landing are analyzed to illustrate the rapid advancements driven by this strategic rivalry. In addition, the chapter addresses the participation of other states in space activities in the post–Cold War era, including the roles of the European Space Agency (ESA), Japan, China, and India. This section emphasizes how national security imperatives, prestige, and the pursuit of technological superiority have shaped the trajectory of space exploration. The second chapter analyzes the legal and political dimensions of space activities. It primarily focuses on the 1967 Outer Space Treaty and subsequent agreements, examining the international treaties and legal frameworks that govern space endeavors. Issues such as sovereign rights, the utilization of space resources, and the management of space debris are discussed in light of the principles and challenges associated with ensuring the peaceful and cooperative use of outer space. The final chapter addresses the growing significance of private sector involvement in space activities. Companies such as SpaceX, Blue Origin, and Virgin Galactic are revolutionizing the field through innovations in space tourism, cost-effective launch services, and ambitions for Mars colonization. This chapter assesses the impact of the private sector's dynamism and flexibility, suggesting that it marks the beginning of a new era in space exploration. Furthermore, the potential of public–private partnerships and the regulatory and ethical challenges faced by private actors in outer space are also discussed. In summary, this study aims to provide a broad evaluation of developments in the field of space activities by integrating their historical, political, legal, and economic dimensions. Its core objective is to outline the framework for future space endeavors and to assess the current and emerging trends that are shaping the trajectory of human engagement in outer space.
