Abstract (EN)
On 27th May 1960, the confrantation of Democrat Party in power with oppasition parties, universities, press and the political crisis with the implementation of the repression regime and the economic problems of the country led to a stalemate that army seized the administration. This military intervention ended ten years of Democrat Party government in Turkey and led to the dominance of politics over military power. The ruling party was liquidated by the army taking over. The liquidated members of the party were sent to Yassıada. The defendants, tried by the revolutionary court, were sentenced to various penalties. The National Unity Committee which made the military intervention appointed the Constituent Assembly to carry out legislative duties. This Assembly also allowed the establishment of political parties. The National Unity Commitee served until the new government took over. After the necessary conditions were prepared, the 1961 Constitution was prepared fort he army to leave the administration to civils. The first general elections after the coup took place on 15th October 1961. With the 1961 constitution the Senate of Republic came into force beside the Assembly. According to the election results, no party has been able to form a goverment with their votes. The CHP-AP goverment, the first coalition goverment of multi party life was established after elected President Cemal Gürsel gave İsmet İnönü. Thus, Turkish political life was introduced to the coalition concept.
