Özet (EN)
The Şer'iyye Registers are record books documenting the legal proceedings overseen by judges (kadıs) within the Ottoman Empire. These registers contain a wealth of information reflective of the period in which they were written. Alongside administrative documents such as firmans, berats, and buyruldus, they also include materials dealing with social matters—such as inheritance, guardianship appointments, divorce, alimony, and debt settlements. As sources that reflect the judicial, social, administrative, economic, and cultural conditions of cities and villages, they are immensely valuable to researchers studying the social structure of the Ottoman Empire. Furthermore, having been written contemporaneously, these registers serve as primary sources. In this study, the transcription, classification, and summary of pages 280 to 419 of the 28th Ayıntab Şer'iyye Register covering the years Hijri years 1077-1079 / Gregorian years 1666-1668 have been completed, and a general evaluation of the 331 identified documents has been provided.
