The relation between chil-rearing attitudes and educational involvement level of fathers with children aged 3-6

This study aims to examine the relationship between a group of fathers, whose children are attending preschools, traditional- authoritarian and moden-democratic attitudes of child rearing and education of their children and the educational involvement level of them. The data forms are prepared for this purpose and selected scales are applied to fathers whose children are attending to two state and two private preschools in Bornova, Buca and Hatay, the districts of Izmir, between the year 2009 and 2010.Data were collected by using the Personal Data Form to obtain the demographic features of fathers and Parents Modernism Scala (PMS) to evaluate the attitudes of child rearing their children, and Family Involvement Questionnaire (FIQ) and to evaluate the education involvement levels of fathers. Personal Data Form and the scales were given together to the participants. Personal Data Form and the scales were completed by the fathers of children that were attending the determined preschools, delivered to researcher. The statistical analysis of the data was carried out by using SPSS 18 package program.Coranbach Alfa is used to examine the reliability of scales, frequency and percentage values. Descriptive statistics are used to examine the distribution of demographic features of the sample group and t-test and analysis of variance are used to examine the factors related to child-rearing attitudes and fathers? involvement level to his child?s education.Key words: Father involvement, Paternal attitudes, Preschool education.
