Abstract (EN)
Aim: The aim of this study was to investigate the relationship between the abuse awareness of parents who have children in the age range of 4-6 years and perceive parental attitudes. Material and Method: This is a descriptive and correlational study was conducted with 113 mothers and fathers who have children in the age range of 4-6 years. In order to collect the research data, three different forms were used: Participant Information Form, Abuse Awareness Scale for Parents and the Short Version of EMBU-C. The data of the study were gathered online via the qualtrics application between May 2023 and July 2023. The evaluation of the data, descriptive analyzes, the significance test of the difference between the two means, Mann-Whitney U test and Kruskal-Wallis H test, correlation analysis and regression analysis were used. Results: The mean score of Abuse Awareness Scale for Parents was found to be 58.44± 5.85. The mean scores of subscalas of Short Version of EMBU-C was calculated; emotional warmth maternal 17.42 ± 4.4, emotional warmth paternal 16.48± 4.86, overprotection maternal 20.34± 5.03, overprotection paternal 18.81± 5.04, rejection maternal 11.50± 4.64, rejection paternal 11.04± 4.18. When the total scores of the participants on the abuse awareness scale were compared with the demographic characteristics It was determined that the difference between the total scores of the participants on the abuse awareness scale and demografic characteristics (age, gender, familt type, education level, financial income level, working status, marital status, spouse's employment status, spouse's education level, number of children having) weren't statistically significant (p>0,05). According to the results of the correlation analysis, a relationship was found between the over protective paternal and the abuse awareness scale, the rejecting maternal and the abuse awareness scale, and the rejecting paternal and the abuse awareness scale (p<0,05). Factors affecting awareness of abuse were examined with regression analysis, and it was seen that the rejecting maternal and emotional warmth maternal subscalas affected abuse awareness (Rejecting maternal (t): 4.46; emotional warmth maternal (t): 2.97; p<0,05). Conclusion: As the result of the research, it was found that the abuse awareness level of the parents was at a medium level, and that the level of abuse awareness was lower in the perceived parental attitudes of overprotective father, rejecting mother and rejecting father. The results of the research show that the parental attitude a person is exposed to is also important for the next generation in terms of abuse. For this reason, it is recommended to provide training to parents to increase awareness of abuse. It is suggested to draw attention to parental attitudes that affect awareness of abuse and to produce and implement projects that will raise awareness in this direction in individuals
