ABSTRACTIn this study, the interaction of 5-dodesiloksi-2-[[[4-(s)(2-methylbutoksi)fenil]imino]methyl]fenol (DMBFIMF) liquid crystal and 5-dodesiloksi-2-[[[4-(s)(2-methylbutoksi)fenil]imino]methyl]fenol/poly(methylhydrosiloxane-dimethylsiloxane) (DMBFIMF/HMS-013) mixturesin compositions 50/50 with methyl acetate, ethyl acetate, tert-butyl acetate, benzene, cyclopentane, cyclo hexane, hexane and heptane were examined by heating from 40 degreescentigrade to 105 degrees centigrade and cooling from 90 degrees centigrade to 40 degreescentigrade because liquid crystal exhibits different phase transition temperatures by heatingand cooling by inverse gas chromatography technique (IGC). The interaction ofpoly(methylhydrosiloxane-dimethylsiloxane) (HMS-013) copolymer with the same solventswere examined between 40 and 105 degrees centigrade. Phase transition temperatures andsorption properties of DMBFIMF and DMBFIMF/HMS-013 mixtures in compositions 50/50were investigated from retention diagram and percent crystallinity of DMBFIMF/HMS-013mixtures in compositions 50/50 were determined. In addition, it was determined the phasetransition temperatures by polarization microscope and diferantial scanning calorimeter.Interaction parameters of HMS-013, DMBFIMF and DMBFIMF/ HMS-013 mixtures incompositions 50/50 with solvents were obtained between 80 and 105 degrees centigrade.Flory Huggins interaction parameters and Equation of State interaction parameters for liquidcrystal-solvent and polymer-solvent systems were determined. In addition effective exchangeenergy parameters were determined for HMS-013. Then, liquid crystal-polymer interactionparameters of DMBFIMF/HMS-013 mixtures were determined. It was seen that theseparameters were slightly dependent on solvent used. The liquid crystal-polymer interactionparameters, being independent on solvent were found by used of the methods which weresuggested Prolongo and Farooque groups. Therefore, it was concluded that DMBFIMF andHMS-013 were not miscible at studied temperature according to results of Prolongo andFarooque methods.Keywords: Inverse gas chromatography, 5-dodesiloksi-2-[[[4-(s)(2-methylbutoksi)fenil]imino]methyl]fenol, methylhydrosiloxane-dimethylsiloxane copolymer, liquid crystal-polymer interaction parameters.
