Examining the six sigma approach in terms of different variables in the 5th grade let's get to know living creatures unit

The aim of this study is to investigate the effects of activities based on the six sigma approach in the 5th grade science course "Let's Get to Know Living Things" unit on students' academic success, science process skills, attitudes towards science and self-efficacy beliefs towards science. The study group of the research consists of 25 students studying in the 5th grade in the central village of Burdur province. A quasi experimental design with a control group, pre-test and post-test was used in the study. Six Sigma approach-supported activities in accordance with the 2018 science curriculum were applied to the experimental group during the "Let's Get to Know Living Things" unit, and the 2018 curriculum was applied to the control group. In the study, pre-test and post-test were given to the experimental and control groups before and after the unit; Academic achievement test, scientific process skills scale, attitude towards science scale, self-efficacy belief scale were applied in the Let's Get to Know Living Creatures unit. Since the number of samples in the groups was below 30 in the analyses, it was decided to use non-parametric tests. In the analyzes made using the SPSS statistical program; Mann-Whitney U and Wilcoxon Signed Ranks tests were used. As a result of the analysis, it was seen that there was a significant and higher increase in the post-test scores of the students educated with the six sigma approach in the academic achievement test, science attitude scale, science process skills scale and science self-efficacy belief scale compared to the control group. At the end of the research, it was observed that the six sigma-based training was effective and created positive changes on the students.
