Examination of 5th grade mathematics textbooks in terms of association skills

The aim of this research is to identify how and to what extent the ability of con-nection is included in the specified goals of the 5 th grade math textbooks. The data sources of the research is two 5th grade math textbooks - handed out to the students in ....- one of which is from a private publisher and the other one belongs to the Ministery of National Education. To identify the ability of connection, a conceptual framework is settled and in accordance with this framework, the textbooks are analysed. The text-books are analysed in the categories of real-world connection, connection among differ-ent presentations of the concept, connection between concepts and connection with dif-ferent disciplines, all of which form the elements of the conceptual framework. The re-sults have shown that real world connection and the connections between concepts are included in the textbooks with the highest rate; however, connection among different presentations of the concept is included less. The connection with different disciplines isn't mentioned at all in both of these textbooks. In conclusion, the indications have revealed that the textbooks don't include the ability of connection extensively. It is dis-cussed depending on the indications of the research and suggestions are made to re-searchers, textbook writers, teachers and students.
