Economic literacy experiences of 5th grade students with educational games in the social studies course

The consept of economy which has seen its effect an all countrres of the word, especially in this country, with its increasing importance from past to present, is diseussed as a subject shqred by all disciplines. Economy has somehaw taken a place in the lives of all humanity since the firs human being. It has taken its place in every aspect of our lives, begining from the barter paracedure to financial systemy. No matter what age group a person is in, it is necessary to have economic knowledge and skills in order to raise their living standards. Look to the future whit more confidence, manage thir money and make the right investments. These skils help people make informed finqncial decisions and enable them to achieve their long-term financial goals. Since it is know that economics is now a part of our lives, providing economics education to individuals has necessrated the inclusran of economics education in the curriculum economic education should be included in school programs begining from primary education and scchool be conveyed to students in an enjoyable and permanent way. Economics education is an education process that aims to provide individuals with the abiliyt to understand economics issves more depply, to be successful in making and implemeting economic decisions, and to play a more effective role in society. Economics education helps individuals understand economic concepts and help they make more conscious decisions in their dally and bussiness lives. Individuals can participate in economic activities more consciously and contribute to the economic well-being of society. Besides, economies education aims to supply that students have more advanced economic knowledge and skills by supplying that they are ready for unıversity education. Thus individuals become more successful and qualified bath personally and accraply. In Turkey, Social Studies courses at primary and secondary school levels include economics subjects. Especially, the 'Production, Distribution and Consumption' learning area, which aims to develop students' skills in becoming entrepreneurs and conscious consumers focuses on the acquisition of economic literacy skills. The aim of this study is to evaluate the participation of 5th grade students in activities aimed at increasing their economic literacy skills in the 'Produation, Disturibution, Consumption' learning freld in the social studies course, from their perspectives. In this context, firstly activities were prepared to enable students to experience economic literary skills in live with the activements of the 5th Grade Social Studies course 'Produation, Consumption and Disturibution' learning area, and expert opinions were received. After implementing these activitres regarding the students 'economic literacy experiences, they were asked to evaluate the activities and their self evolvatrans using questranna that received expert opinions. This study was carried out without the aim of generalizatien and without disturbing the natural structure of the research area. It is based on the 'lemancipatory/ enhancing/ critical action researc' pattern, which is one of the qualitative research consisted of 5th grade students studying at on public secondary scohool in the province of Sakarya in the 2022-2023 academic year, where the necessary permission were abtained fort he application. Questionnaires for application activities and self- evaluations, on which expert opinions were taken, are the data collection tools of the study. As a result of the research; student opinions showed that the implemented activities generally had a positive effect, but some diffuiculties were encauntered in meeting the expectations of certain students. Within the scope of the research, it was determined that the students participating in the study were effective in gaining economic literacy skills in through educational games. It has been concluded that these activities are pioneers in adapting children to Daily life by using various teaching methods and materials. In this way the activito were ensured to be more effective and efficient and ıt was observed that the students were able to benefit more from their learning experiences.
