Analysing the 5th grade social studies text book according to teacher's opinions

The aim of this work is to analyse and evaluate the 5th grade social studies text book according to teacher's opinions. This analysing has been carried on with 120 social studies teachers, working in Rize between 2018-2019 academical years. The descriptive method has been used in the investigation. The data of investigation have been collected with three demographical varieties (gender, Professional seniority, branche) and text book analysing questionnaire form which consists of 45 questions. Collected surveys have been sorted out with SPSS-22 statistical programs according to the investigation. As a result of the investigation, Social studies teachers have evaluated the book in terms of physical design, general design, content, language and explanation, assessment and evaluation and then, they have found the book adequate. Although the teachers are in different gender, professional seniority or different branches, in generally there are no important disagreement among their opinions related to the content, visual design, language and explanation, assessment and evaluation, sub-dimension. Some significant differences have been seen on the physical design of the book among the teachers related to their professional seniority. Some suggestions depending on the results of the investigation have been put forward. The visuals and the design of the book should be prepared better so as to make it more attractive. Teachers suggest that more interesting texts and evaluation questions for the level of the pupils should be taken place in the book, evaluation and assessment questions must be increased at the end of the units.
