Abstract (EN)
This study aims to evaluate the potential of forest bathing to reduce depression levels and increase life satisfaction in elderly individuals. It also examines the effects of forest bathing on some psychometric variables. This study, which has a randomised controlled design, includes experimental and control groups and includes pre-test, mid-test and post-test steps. The population of the study consisted of individuals aged 55 years and over attending 60+ Tazelenme University, while the sample consisted of 47 volunteer participants (25 experimental and 22 control).Data were collected in three stages using various scales: Life Satisfaction Scale, Geriatric Depression Scale, Profile of Mood States Scale and International Physical Activity Questionnaire. A significant decrease in depression levels and an increase in life satisfaction were observed in the forest bath group. No significant change was found in the control group. When the mood sub-dimensions were analysed, a decrease in depression, confusion and tension levels and an increase in energy levels were found in the forest bath group. Similar changes were observed in the control group, but the effects were less pronounced than in the forest bath group. It is revealed that forest bath applications are effective in reducing the depression levels of elderly individuals and improving their general mood. The effects on life satisfaction require further research. It is concluded that natural environments, especially nature-based interventions such as forest bathing, can support the psychological and emotional health of elderly individuals.
