Abstract (EN)
This study has been executed with 30 people of whom are 3rd class students in Gazi University School of Education Science of Chemistry, and through this work, the effects of 5E Model to the student?s conceptual understanding, development of scientific process skills and their attitude towards organic chemistry laboratory course have been analyzed and this has been compared with the verification type laboratory method. This study has been conducted during spring semester of the education year 2006 ? 2007. Through this study pre-test ? final test group semi experimental design has been used. The sample has been formed of random selected experimental and control groups consist of 15 people. After applying the pre-tests to the both groups, the lessons have been maintained with 5E Model in experiment group and with verification type laboratory method in control group for 5 weeks. Before applying the education method, the prior knowledge test (ÖBT), scientific process skill test (BİBT), organic chemistry laboratory concept test (OKT), attitude test (TT) have been applied as pre-tests. At first, the pre-test results have been evaluated with the t-test in order to identify whether there is difference between the experiment and control groups and as a result, it has been seen that the both groups are equivalent.t-test has been used in order to test the study hypothesis. The analyze results have been showed that the conceptual understanding level of the students who receive through instruction in 5E Model is significantly more than the students who receive through instruction in traditional verification method. In addition to this, it has been observed that the 5E Model has more effect on student?s scientific process skill development rather than the verification type laboratory method. It has not been observed any significant attitude change in the study.
