Abstract (EN)

In this study, the level of inclusion of "root values" in the 2018 Life Science Course Curriculum in 6-10 year old children's story books were investigated. The population of the research constitutes 1400 books which are from the two best-selling web sites enterprises engaged in the online sale of books in Turkey. The books are specifically chosen from the child-youth section, which also took place on the section of school age / age 6-10 and sold as the story type. Among these books, the best-selling 104 were selected in accordance with the research saturation approach. In the study, data examination model has been used which is one of the qualitative research. Also ladder of inference is used for data analysis. The problem statement "the presence of values in Life Science Courses of the Ministry of National Education in well known and read story books written for the 6-10 age group in Turkey" has been defined and supported by the sub-problems such as the number and the type of the root values found in each book examined, the frequency between the values of the stories written by the native and foreign authors, the presence of multiple values and the pair of values in a book at the same time. 104 children's story books were examined in the research. 38 of these books belong to local writers and 66 of them belong to foreign authors. A total of 138 ladders of inference were prepared from the books reviewed. Out of the 104 books, 78 books contained one or more of the "root values" which took place in the Life Science Course Curriculum of the Ministry of National Education, and none of these values were found in 26 books. The stories included in the examined books, the decision mechanisms of the heroes and the breaking points of the stories were examined with ladders of inference. Then the thinking and emotion steps of the ladders of inference ladder were evaluated and the values and the validity of these decisions were determined. The value frequency table was used to determine the values presented in the books. There are 10 values in this table. For each book, the table is filled and the data is analyzed individually. Breakdown of the values found amongst the 104 books in the list as follows; "helpfulness" in 49 books, "love" in 37 books, "friendship" in 24 books, "responsibility" in 20 books, "honesty" in 19 books, "respect" in 19 books, "self-control" in 12 books, "patience" in 7 books, "justice" in 3 books and lastly "patriotism" in 2 books. The 104 books in the list are examined in two sub-groups as Turkish and foreign authors and found that 66 books have been written by foreign authors and 38 by Turkish authors. Value presence ratios did not differ significantly in these two subgroups. This ratio is 52/66 (% 79) for books with foreign authors and 29/38 (% 76) for Turkish authors.
