Evaluation of the prose texts in Turkish textbooks instructed in 6th and 7th grades

For this reason, primarily, theoretical information about Turkish Language teaching and reading-writing education in Turkish Education History and developmental period in the primary school years and personality development, the features that should be in children edition and the theoretical frame of Turkish National Ministry Primary School Turkish Education Program were given.Later figural analysis of the texts were done. In the fıgural analysis, the number of paragraphs in the texts, the number of the sentences, the number of the words and the special usages such as metaphors and idioms were found. Afterwards, the proportion of the word, the proportion of the difficulty and the intelligibility of the texts were determined by using Sönmez Model that was developed by Veysel Sönmez.After the structural analysis of the texts, evaluations about texts were done. While evaluating, the principals that were determined while defining the theoretical frame and the intelligibility level were taken into consideration.According to the research results, the texts in the textbooks are generally intelligible. The analyzed texts are in accordance with the themes and the sub-themes in which they take part. Some texts contain biased approaches and wrong information. Although distributing of the texts types show diversity, in the 6th grades textbooks story texts; in the 7th grades textbooks essay, articles types of texts take part.
