A research on the level of remembering the concepts in the unit of "life in the world " of 6th class social studies lesson (Sakarya province example)

The levels of memorizing the concepts which are in the unit ` Life in the Earth? of the 6th Grade Social Studies Class; sex,social-economical level, parents? educational state, parents? occupational state, whether they have education out of school and the variables of school types In the academic year of 2007-2008 this research has been done in Merkez Özel Şahin Primary School in Sakarya, Merkez İnönü Primary School in Karasu, Karasu Primary School in the village of Karasu and Şehit İsmail Hakkı Yılmaz Primary School in the village of Kuyumculu.Before the research has been done; the sources about the subject were searched and the concepts in the unit of ` Life in the Earth? of the 6th Grade Social Studies Class for the ` Test of Success? which will be done to measure the levels of memorizing by the students were found out according to this source and the opinion of the experts.This research consists of three parts. In introduction part ;the definition and the importance of Social Studies Education, the relationships between Social Studies and Social Sciences, the historical development process of Social Studies Education, the teaching program and its characteristics of new Social Studies Lecture, the main goals of the teaching program of Social Studies Lecture, the teaching program of new Social Studies Lecture, the 6th grade learning areas, the numbers and the periods of achievements, the importance of learning concepts in the Social Studies Lecture what is the concept, the characteristics of the concepts, teaching of concepts, the models of teaching concepts and the importance of the concepts in the Social Studies Lecture were explained. In the second part; the method, the model, the universe and the sampling of the research, collecting, analyzing and commentaries the datas took place. As a result in the third part; the thesis study is completed by giving place to the symptoms and the comments of the research, finally the results leaning against the symptoms and the the suggestions leading to the results.The means of collecting datas were applicated consist of an acquiring information questionnaire (6 question) and a multiple-choice success test (30 questions) which was prepared with the aim of measuring the memorizing levels the concepts in the unit by the students. It was given importance to the mean of data enabling its validity and reliance in the research. It has been turning to account from the packet program of SPSS (Statistical Package fort he Social Sciences) in processing the informations which were collected in the research and in the all statistical analysis?s. Datas were gotten by using`t test? in two variable questions and using `f test? (Analysis of Variance) three or more variable questions. It was assumed that P<0.05 meaningfully level to test the meaningfully between the variables. These results were gained after the data analysis?s and the statistical processes :1. It was fixed that the levels of memorizing of the 6th grade students according to their sexualities don?t change in the levels of memorizing the concepts of ` Life in the Earth?.2.The difference was gained according to the education the students have out of the school and it was clear that the students don?t have any education out of the school can remember the concepts better than the students have.3.According to the variety of the school type ; students who go to the schools in the villages can remember in a low rate comparing with the students who go to the city schools and private schools.4.The levels of memorizing of the students whose parents? social-economical situation is low and average are less than the students whose parents `social-economical situation is high.5.The levels of memorizing of the students whose parents? educational situation is licence(university) are higher than the students whose parents? educational situation is primary and secondary school.6. It has been clear that the levels of memorizing show no difference according to the fathers? occupational situation. Because the % 76 of mothers is housewives, this variety doesn?t attend to the research.
