Abstract (EN)
Objective:The aim of this study was to determine the incidence of sarcopenia and risk factors affecting type 2 diabetic patients aged 65 years'and over. Method:In this cross-sectional study, 100 elderly patients (40 men and 60 women) admitted to the outpatient Akdeniz University Hospital clinic of the Endocrinology and Metabolism were enrolled. Comprehensive geriatrics assessment tests, anthropometric measurements, bioelectrical impedance analysis (BIA), handgrip strength and muscle ultrasound were performed. Fat-free mass index (FFMI) and handgrip strength tests were used for diagnosis of sarcopenia. Results:The mean age of the patients included in the study was 71.81 ± 5.59 years. The prevalence of sarcopenia was 22%(23.3% of women, 20% of men). Sarcopenic patients, compared to non-sarcopenic; weight average (p: 0.043), BMI average (p: 0.048), average waist circumference (p: 0,000), waist hip ratio mean (p: 0.000), the right MAC mean (p: 0.002), the left MAC mean (p: 0.001), right CC mean (p: 0,000), left CC mean (p: 0,000) and walking speed average (p: 0.03). The prevalence of osteoporosis (p: 0.000) was higher in sarcopenic patients than non-sarcopenic patients. In sarcopenic patients, the number of dependent individuals in the KATZ assessment test was higher (p: 0.002) than in the non-sarcopenic patients, and the number of dependent persons was lower than the LB assessment test (p: 0.000) and MNA-sf evaluation test, the number of people with malnutrition was higher (p: 0.000).There was a significant and positive correlation with FFMI, lean body mass index (ALM / BKI) (r: 0.487, p <0.001). Conclusion: Sarcopenia is an important health problem elderly and long-term diabetic patients. As with other chronic complications, diabetic patients should be evaluated for sarcopenia. Key words: sarcopenia, diabetes mellitus, muscle loss
