Applications of the article 2/b of the Forest Law no. 6831 and its results (the case of Amasya province)

This study aimed to determine the extent of forest lands within the boundaries of Amasya province that are subject to 2/B article applications, to identify perceptions and outcomes related to forests and 2/B applications in the areas where these applications were made, and to propose solutions for the encountered problems. The research was conducted using a survey method with 400 participants. The data obtained from the surveys were tabulated and graphed. Additionally, Chi-Square analysis was performed with selected variables. The results of the research showed that citizens in the villages of Aksalur, Bayat, Alakadı, Yassıçal, Yenice, Ümük, Karataş, Yuva, Damudere, Dadıkavakçayırı, Ormanözü, Ziyaret, Çiğdemlik, Aydınca, Durucasu, Ardıçlar, Mahmatlar, Beldağı, Şeyhsadi, Musa, Karsan, Elittekke, and Akyazı in Amasya province did not have sufficient information about 2/B applications. However, they were using 2/B lands for agricultural activities, considering them as an investment, and preserving them as ancestral lands. They expressed the desire to pass these lands down to future generations and were willing to pay more than their value if necessary. They also had expectations for future applications, taking into account historical changes in the past. In order to change the perceptions and expectations that pose a threat to forests, it is suggested to put an end to the historical changes underlying the 2/B applications. Furthermore, addressing the deficiencies in governance and public relations through mass media and enhancing the public's understanding of forests are recommended.
