Evulation of colon cancer patient survival rates, clinical andhistopathological characteristics under and over 70 years of age

Objective: The effect of age on mortality in patients will colon cancer was investigated. Mortality rates were evaluated in patients over and under 70 years of age. Clinical, histopathological and laboratory data, which may affect the treatment response and prognosis of the disease, were examined. Methods: The study included 206 patients over the age of 18 who where followed up in the Dokuz Eylul University Hospital Medical Oncology Outpatient Clinic between 2014 and 2020 and were diagnosed with colon cancer pathologically. Patient with colon cancer diagnosed and missing data were excluded from the study. Demographic, clinical, histopathological and laboratory data of the patients were analyzed retrospectively. Patient were divided into two main groups as under and over 70 years of age. Data on non-metastatic and metastatic patients were evaluated separately. The effects of clinical, histopatholological and laboratory data, which may have an impact on various prognosis, on disease-free survival (DFS), progression-free survival (PFS) and overall survival (OS) were examined. Kaplan-Meirer survival analysis was used to examine the effects of various factors overall survival (OS). Results: When we compare the patients under the age of 70 and the patients over the age of 70; it was observed that there was no significant difference between the to patients groups in terms of OS (p=0,611), DFS (p=0,299) and PFS (p=0,914) times. It was observed that women had longer DFS (p=0,004) times, but no difference was observed in OS (p=0,064) and PFS (p=0,989) times. It has been observed that factors such as tumor stage (p<0,001), tumor differentiation degree (p=0,007), RAS (p<0,001), BRAF (p=0,028) mutation status, metastasis status at the time of diagnosis (p<0,001), lymph node involvement at the time diagnosis (p<0,001), and vasculer invasion (p=0,032) are effective in survival. It was observed that the durations of OS (p=0,016) and DFS (p=0,002) were shorter in patients with dose reduction in chemotherapy regimens given to patients. It was observed that patients whose CEA, MLR, NLR, CA 19-9 (p<0,001, p=0,004, p=0,002, p<0,001) values at the time of diagnosis were above various cut-off values had shorter OS. Conclusion: In our study, when we compared the patients with colon cancer diagnosed under the age of 70 and over, no significant difference was found between OS, DFS and PFS times. Although many factors affect the prognosis, clinical, histopathological factors, each patient should be evaluated separately and with a systematic approach. Keywords: Colon cancer, prognosis, age
