Abstract (EN)

The Ottoman Empire survived for centuries and spread over a wide geography. There are many sources from which we can get information about this geography. Sharia registries are important not only for looking at the center but also for the ordinary people of the countryside. Sharia records provide information about many issues related to daily life. The Sharia registry No. 77 examined covers the years 1654-1655. The first part of the thesis, which consists of four main chapters, explains the name and history of Galata under the title "Galata District and Judgeship". In the second chapter, under the title "Urban Space in Galata", the situation of the inner and outer neighborhoods of Galata in the 17th century is described. In the third part, under the title "Social Life", the rights of slaves and their emancipation methods, types of divorce and crime issues in Galata are discussed. In the fourth chapter, under the title "Economic Life", material issues such as debt and property sales are evaluated.
