The place and importance of the Montreux Straits Convention in 8th grade History of Revolution and Ataturkism course

In the period that started before Christ and continued until today, strategic issues for countries have always been given special importance in the world geography. Undoubtedly Anatolian geography, which has coasts to three seas also contains important strategic points due to its location. The importance of the straits in history first appeared with the Trojan War. In the period when the Ottoman State wided and expanded, domination of Istanbul and Canakkale Straits and their surroundings completely passed to the Ottoman State with the conpletition of the conquest of Istanbul. The strategic importance of straits mainly emerged in the First World War. The Allied Powers that won the war immediately seized the straits as a result of the Mondros Armistic Agreementand wanted to make this dominance permanent with Sevr. After the victory of the National Struggle, the Lausanne Treaty was signed and the control of the region was transferred to a commision estanlished under the control of the League of Nations. In the next period, due to the changing status quo in Europe, the Montreux Straits Conference was held. At the end of the conference The Montreux Straits Convention was signed. The Straits Convention, which has a long history, has been resolved in line with Atatürk's foreign policy principles. The Montreux Straits Convention, which is an important subject for Social Studies and Turkish Revolution History and Ataturkism course, has been evaluated in terms of education.
