Study of the 8th grade Turkish textbook in terms of vocabulary treasury elements

The main purpose of Turkish education is to enable students to use the language in the most effective and competent way. Every learning and teaching activity carried out in line with this purpose allows students to discover the riches of Turkish, improve their language skills and use these skills competently. Textbooks play an important role as both a learning and teaching tool at all levels of education and have a great function in terms of enriching the vocabulary. Textbooks that contribute to a planned teaching process present the texts selected to achieve the goals of Turkish education to students. In this context, it carries out great importance to identify the elements of vocabulary contained in the texts in the Turkish textbook. The aim of this study is; It will be taught from the year 2023/2024 8. the aim of the class is to identify the vocabulary elements of the texts in the Turkish textbook, to determine the frequency of use of these elements and to reveal the contribution of students to the vocabulary treasury. The data was collected using the document review method. Within the scope of the study, a total of 40 texts were examined, including 24 reading texts, 8 free reading texts and 8 listening/viewing texts.At the first stage of the study, the texts in the Turkish textbook were transferred to the computer environment. In the creation of word lists, the Cibakaya program, which determines the word frequencies, was used. In this process, before the Cibakaya program was used, according to the scope of the program and the study, the images in the textbook, item heads were deleted; punctuation marks were removed; many edits were made so that combined words, idioms, proverbs, dilemmas and form words were perceived as single words instead of separate words. The obtained data were decomposed and separate tables were created for each element and the results were evaluated. Idioms, proverbs, dilemmas and phrases are presented with examples of witnessed sentences in the texts and page numbers are indicated. As a result, 18.079 fundamental words, 446 idioms, 9 proverbs, 226 dilemmas, 56 phrases, 733 special names, 1017 foreign words were identified. It is noteworthy that a small number of proverbs are used.
