An analysis and comparison of the conformity of the instructor books and student books used in Turkish classes in the 8th grade with the constructivist approach

The purpose of this study is to examine and assess the conformity of 8. Grade instructor books and student books used in Turkish classes with constructivism. In this study, both the student and instructor books published by Turkish Ministery of National Education and Yıldırım Publications,which are currently being used for the teaching purposes in 8th grade Turkish classes in 2014-15 , were analyzed. This study is a qualitative research and document analysis methodology is used. The above-mentioned books were analyzed with the help of " The List of Criteria Identified According to Constructivist Learning Approach" developed by Akkocaoğlu (2009). The conformity of the books with contructivism was analyzed and these boks of both publications were compared in terms of constructivist approach throughout the study. The findings of the study revealed that although the student and the instructor books of both publications reflect the properties of constructivism, the books of the two publications appear to be different in terms of the frequency and the amount of the constructivist criteria.. The findings also revealed that the instructor book of Yıldırım Publications was partially compliant with contructivism and the conformity of the instructor book of Turkish Ministery of National Education Publications with constructivism was not sufficient. Therefore, it was observed that the instructor book of Yıldırım Publications was better than the instructor book of Turkish Ministery of National Education Publications in terms of constructivism. Moreover, based on the findings of the study it was observed that student books of Turkish Ministery of National Education Publications and Yıldırım Publications were both particially compliant with constructivism.
