Abstract (EN)
Bolu?s being close to the Ottoman Capital in terms of its geographical location accommodated the 19th Century modernazition activities to reflect to the region. It?s understood from the investigations of the 19th century registariton entries that some Karye?s (villages) were registered with the expression of ?nefs? in that century. This situation shows that the residential areas which were administratively regarded as villages tended toward urbanization. This is importand in the sense that it shows that the cultural and economical structure in Bolu underwent a change. Furthermore, as 875 numbored registration entries of the years between 1841- 1844 show that utmost impornce was given to the regular collection and registration of taxes during the Tanzimat period, as well, which were one of the most significant income sources of the sate. It?s also observed that in one hand while the modernizations that began with the Tanzimat period rebounded to Bolu on the other hand the traditional Ottoman social structure was preserved. I that period, after analyzing the ?tereke?s which were a kind of inheritance documents, it?s determined that when sharing the heritage the old laws were applicated. In the 19th century as well as the dominant muslim population some non-muslim elements were also seen. Those elements were living in different neighborhood in the city center and were trading with each other in peace. In the book we analyzed it?s seen that the artistic branches such as tannery, ironworking and blakcsmith were done in the city center and stockbreeding, forestry and agriculture were still important in the villages of the Sanjak of Bolu during the Tanzimat period.
