Abstract (EN)
Lakes in the province of Bolu are the strategic natural resources that benefit life quality, well-being and economic stability of the region. Monitoring, protecting and sustainably managing water quality of these lakes against pressures are among the prioritized issues for the local and regional decision makers. It is a must for regions such as Bolu to possess a rapid, cost efficient and continuous monitoring of water resources. Therefore, it is required to be shown whether or not lake water quality and metabolism components can be monitored using remote sensing methods. Within this context, to detect spatiotemporal changes in lake metabolism components of Lake Abant based on remote sensing methods was aimed at. Lake metabolism components used in the thesis were estimated using the diel oxygen technique. For this purpose, dissolved oxygen concentration, dissolved oxygen saturation value, pH, electrical conductivity, chlorophyll-a and water temperature were continuously measured in situ with YSI water quality monitoring probes installed. With the diel oxygen technique, changes in gross primary production, net ecosystem production and ecosystem respiration can be estimated on the daily scale. In the thesis, lake metabolism components were calculated following the following two assumptions (1) that ecosystem respiration is equal during Rnight and Rday; and (2) that ecosystem respiration is not equal during Rnight and Rday. Landsat 7 ETM + satellite images were used in order to relate the components of the lake metabolism to the satellite images acquired in the summer months between 2012 and 2014. Multiple linear (MLR) and nonlinear regression (MNLR) models were used to relate ecosystem metabolism to digital number (DN) values derived from Landsat 7 ETM+ images.
