Abstract (EN)
Nutrition is the use of foods to grow, continue to life and to maintain health. Nutritionis a science investigates human-food relation in all levels from food production to food using incells (Baysal, 1997).The growth rate is more slow in populations which have inadequate nutrition thanpopulations which have adequate nutrition. Inadequate nutrition does not only effect physicalgrowth, but also mental growth (Baysal, 1997).The most important diseases that indirectly caused from inadequate and imbalancenutrition are infectious diseases, atherosclerotic diseases, diabetes, hypertension, obesity, dental cavities and liver diseases (Baysal et all., 1999). The arrangement of nutrition plays animportant role in the treatment of different chronic diseases. In a study that investigatingnutrition intervention in different chronic diseases it is thought that appropriate diet is simplyand effective way in controlling of these chronic diseases (Huang et all., 1999).Present strategy in treatment of chronic diseases is to educate patients making themconscious abouth their diseases (Baysal et all., 1999). People need interventions to teach howmake food preference. People making interventions must attend to individual differences(Aurora et all., 2000). Some studies reported that women and older people are more compliantto diet than men and younger people (Chang et all., 2005).In eating behaviour study performed inhyperlipidemic patients it is indicated that 24,9%of patients have less compliance to dietetic recommendations. It is determined that complianceis more in women, older than 60 years of patients, retired people or people living in home. Thestudy showed that the importance of diet could not be adecuately understood by the patients(Allaert, 2004). In a study performed in diabetic patients it is reported that patients can bechanged by the better education, perception, motivation and self-management (Puder et all.;2003). The aim of our study is to determine the effectiveness of diet education, the complianceof patients to diet and factors effecting compliance. Keywords: Adherence, diabetes, nutrition, obesity.iv
