Analysis of Abbas Cılga children's books in terms of basic elements of children's literature

Abbas Cılga wrote his first work called Cat Fight in 1969. He is an important writer who wrote novels, stories and plays for children until his death. Although he was deemed worthy of awards such as Ministry of Culture Children's Literature Award, Arkın Children's Literature Award, Sıtkı Dost Children's Literature Award, Milliyet Children's Plays Award, Turkish Commercial Bank Children's Plays Award for his works for children, a scientific study hasn't been done about the author so far. In this research, all of the works written by Abbas Cılga for children analyzed in terms of its basic elements of children's literature. The text-based method was used in the research. The study consists of 3 parts except the introduction and the conclusion. In the introduction, the historical development of children's literature in the world and in Turkey is briefly mentioned and the basic elements of children's literature are discussed under the title of formal and content elements. Abbas Cılga's life, literary personality and works are explained. In chapter 4, which is the main part of the study, the author's children books are analyzed in elements of children's literature and the findings obtained in the study are included in the conclusion part. The author has 48 printed works and 6 unpublished works for children. Abbas Cılga mostly explained the importance of reading and learning, the love of nature and animals, the negativities of urbanization, the need for people not to stay away from the nature and gave messages about these issues in his works. Although some of the works of Abbas Cılga were found to be inappropriate in elements of formal and content elements, as a result of the analyzed, the works of Abbas Cılga were generally found to be suitable for the basic elements of children's literature.
