Abstract (EN)

The aim of this study is to reveal the social structure of Turkey (1950-1980) and especially the relations of production, consumption, faith, politics, economy and nature of rural life in Central Anatolia in the context of Abbas Sayar's works. Rural life as a phenomenon is an area of interest for sociology and literature. Although the depiction of the countryside and nature among novelists started with romanticism, with the periods of increasing subject diversity, writers who include depictions that harbour social reality have emerged. An author cannot depict nature and social realities independent of social conditions. Sayar, as a writer of village origin and in the years he lived in Yozgat provincial centre, had the chance to closely observe the Central Anatolian villages and the living conditions of the villagers in the context of his close interest in the problems of the villages as a requirement of his work, and transferred this to his works in a realistic manner. Therefore, writers cannot be considered separately from the political, economic and cultural conditions of the period, and their literary works are a voice reflecting the period. Since direct observation and interview were not possible in the study, "document analysis", which is the data technique of qualitative research, was used. Novels constitute the object of document analysis. In the context of the common themes determined, the data obtained from the novels were tried to be described and interpreted. The foundation of the Republic and the year Abbas Sayar was born was 1923. Therefore, the transformations in Turkey's social structure between 1923 and 1980, which we include in our study, cannot be considered independently from Sayar's works. With the coming to power of the Democratic Party, the symbol of Turkey's transition from a single-party regime to a multi-party regime, the countryside gained importance and social change accelerated; the changes in the world of meaning of the peasants in Central Anatolia with the change of political regime necessitated a new social structure. In this context, this study has tried to interpret the structural transformation of the village in particular and the transformations of Turkey's social structure in general through the literary works of Abbas Sayar by giving place to the important political differences of understanding in the period between 1923-1980.
