ABSTRACT Ph. Thesis ABDI'S CÂMASB-NÂME (A CIRITICAL TEXT) Mahmut KARADEMİR Supervisor: Assist. Prof. Turgut KARABEY 2001 PAGE: 504 Jury: Assist. Prof. Turgut KARABEY Abdi' s Camasbnâme is a very notable work of poetry considered to be one of the great works of Turkish culture by culture by both foreign and national researchers. Composed in the 15 th Century by a poet under the pseudonym of Abdi is in fact an annotated translation of another work of poetry. In the present dissertation, Camasbname was studied from various aspects with critical notes and corrections of the original text when necessary. Among several copies of the work available the most extensive one is the copy at the Biblioteque Nationale at 1363, in France which is registered with number 1363 and composed of 183 sheets. This copy on which the present study is based, comprises of 12 interwoven episodes of various length. The original text was transcribed into modem Turkish and then its place and importance in Turkish folklore and popular culture was emphasized.
