Maqamic analysis of musical works of Neyzen Salih Dede in accordanse with maqam theory by Abdülbaki Nasir Dede

In this study, the maqamic (mode) analysis of the musical works of Neyzen Salih Dede is carried out in accordance with the Maqam Theory by Abdülbaki Nasır Dede. "The document review/document analysis" and "interview" methods are used to determine the situation in the qualitative research model in order to examine the musical pieces of Neyzen Salih Dede. Scrutinizing the phases of music will undoubtedly help us understand today's music better as music frequently progresses in concurrence with the cultural structures and historical periods. In the first part of this study, the period when Abdulkadir Nasır Dede lived is evaluated as a musical period and the approaches of the music lovers towards the musical world are cited. Subsequently, the lives of Abdülbaki Nasır Dede and Neyzen Salih Dede and their musical worlds are referred. The work of Abdülbaki Nasır Dede titled "Tedkik u Tahkik" is reviewed to provide insights about how he defined the maqam scales. Afterwards, the twenty one musical pieces of Neyzen Salih Dede, who lived in the same period when Abdülbaki Nasır Dede lived as well, are analysed in terms of maqam in order to understand whether they conform to the Maqamic Theory of Abdülbaki Nasır Dede. In conclusion, the maqamic structure of the works of Neyzen Salih Dede is analyzed in-depth in accordance with the "Tedkik u Tahkik", which elaborates the maqamic theory of Abdülbaki Nasır Dede. The sentences conforming or not conforming to Tedkik u Tahkik are defined adding the required interpretations. The works of Neyzen Salih Dede conforming to Tedkik u Tahkik or the maqamic structures, which conforms but are not mentioned in Tedkik u Tahkik", are defined in the comments. From this point of view, it is analyzed to what extent Abdulbaki Nasır Dede was able to reflect the music of his era in the maqam theory. Based on the same method, it is assessed to what extent the musical works of Neyzen Salih Dede conformed to the current period's musical theory written by Abdülbaki Nasır Dede.
