Abdullah b. Mas'ûd and his place in the hadith science

The Prophet Muhammad was the practitioner and descriptor of the divine inspiration, which are inspired to him, in daily life. Companions of The Prophet Muhammad, who wanted to understand the Koran and act accordingly, shouldered an important role to convey Islam to the next generations by getting His schooling. Because it was a point for which the first representatives of Islam tried very hard in order to make people understand the words, behaviours, orders and prohibitions of The Prophet Muhammad correctly as well as realising the underlying reasons of the cases and having a grasp of the cases. One of the most important names in this period was undoubtedly Abdullah b. Mes'ûd.. Ibn Mes'ûd, who became a Muslim in the early periods of Islamism and was close to The Prophet Muhammad for long years under his service, got an eminent position with the help of his knowledge and intelligence, became the founder and representative of a school called by his own name. He is not only a person conveying lots of sayings from The Prophet Muhammad but also a scribe, a very good preacher and a glossator. Therefore; our study was inspired by the sayings of The Prophet Muhammad conveyed by him as well as his unique position in Islamic world. Our study which we carry out regarding this important companion of The Prophet Muhammad who directed Islamic history and current of thought is composed of an introduction and two parts. In the introduction part, we touched on the aim and method of the study as well as the sayings of The Prophet Muhammad conveyed during the age of The Prophet Muhammad and His companions. In the first part, we discussed the life of Ibn Mes'ûd, his proximity to The Prophet Muhammad, relations with the caliphs after His death in terms of his duties and responsibilities. We tried to determine his knowledgeable personality, his conveying sayings from The Prophet Muhammad and his students who conveyed sayings from Ibn Mes'ûd.In the second and the last part, we determined the hadiths of Abdullah b. Mes'ûd included in Kutub-u Sitte and analyzed the status and differences of the texts. Key Words: AEGXOODKE 0DV¶€G, Companion, Hadiths, Sunnah.
