Abstract (EN)

Objective: This qualitive study explored the experiences of emergency nurses regarding the factors that facilitate and hindering cardiopulmonary resuscitation practices, incorporating both focus group discussions and individual interviews. Method: A phenomenological research design was employed, Data were collected from 35 nurses working in the adult emergency departments in Antalya between July and September 2023. Six focus groups and four individual interviews were conducted using a semi-structured interview guide to ensure both breadth and depth of data collection. Following the framework established by Graneheim and Lundman, the data were analyzed using content analysis, and the findings were interpreted through analytical generalization. Results: The analysis of the interview data yielded three main themes and 12 sub-themes related to factors facilitating cardiopulmonary resuscitation practices: teamwork dynamics, competence of team members and ensuring/maintaining patient and employee safety. Three main themes and 11 sub-themes emerged regarding factors complicating cardiopulmonary resuscitation practices: patient-related characteristics, safety threats, and inability to manage mood. These themes and sub-themes offer a comprehensive understanding of the multifaceted nature of emergency nurses' experiences during cardiopulmonary resuscitation. Conclusion: In this study researched an in-depth understanding of the facilitators and barriers experienced by emergency nurses during cardiopulmonary resuscitation. The findings have the potential to inform the development of policies and practices aimed at mitigating these challenges, thus enhancing the quality of cardiopulmonary resuscitation delivery in emergency settings.
