Evaluation of the emergency department medical internship's contribution to intern doctors in occupati̇onal knowledge and skills

OBJECTIVE: In our study, we aim to measure the CPR knowledge levels of intern doctors who have received an emergency department internship and to investigate the effect of emergency department internship on the knowledge of CPR of intern doctors. MATERIAL AND METHOD: Between the dates of 01 May 2019 - 30 April 2020, intern doctors working as interns in the emergency department were included in the study. A multiple-choice test with 30 questions, consisting of the same questions, was made before and after the internship. Both the questions and the overall success rates were compared between the first and last test exams. Statistical analysis was performed using the SPSS 22,0 package program and P <0.05 was considered statistically significant in all comparisons. RESULTS: A total of 202 intern doctors were included in our study. As a result of the study, a significant increase of 8.97% was detected in the General CPR knowledge level. When the basic life support, advanced life support and pediatric advanced life support were evaluated separately, a success increase of 7.24%, 8.19% and 3.84% was achieved, respectively, compared to the pre-internship period. DISCUSSION AND CONCLUSIONS: One of the primary learning goals of emergency internship students is CPR education. General knowledge levels of CPR were measured at the beginning of the internship and at the end of the internship of the intern doctors studying in our clinic. As a result of our study, there was a significant increase in the knowledge of CPR of the intern doctors who received training in emergency department internship, and our study reached its purpose.
