Abstract (EN)

The general aim of this study is to evaluate the design and implementation of an online distance education course based on open educational resources (OERs) at the secondary level in Turkey. The specific aim is to explore the experiences of teachers and students in the design and implementation of an online distance support course based on OERs to support face-to-face English courses in secondary education. In the study, which adapted an embedded design from mixed research methods, teacher experiences were analyzed from a narrative research perspective and student experiences were analyzed from a phenomenological perspective. Teacher experiences were collected through a diary kept by the teacher, who was also the researcher. Student data was collected through an online "Student Evaluations Questionnaire", which included open-ended questions and multiple-choice questions developed to enable students to respond thoughtfully and remain anonymous. The necessary permissions were obtained in written form from the school administration where the students were chosen and the parents of the students who would participate in the study. The course designed based on OER was implemented as an extracurricular activity with the participation of 16 students over a period of 3 months. The data obtained was analyzed with SPSS 20.0 program, percentage/frequency tables were used to interpret the data, and qualitative data was interpreted with descriptive analysis method. The course design and implementation process was analyzed under the headings of "perceived learning", "satisfaction" and "access". It was concluded that students generally embraced OERs, found them useful and recommended them. Teachers' experiences revealed that it would be useful to use and disseminate OERs more in the context of online education in secondary education.
