The relationship between postoperative recover, pain level and gratitude of patients with open heart operation

Objective: This study was conducted to determine the relationship between preoperative gratitude and postoperative recovery and pain levels in patients who had open heart surgery. Material and Methods: This study was carried out in accordance with a cross-sectional-analytical research design. The study's universe was determined g power analysis, consists of 86 patients who underwent open heart surgery in the cardiovascular surgery clinic of Aydın Adnan Menderes Unıversity Hospital between 30.10.2021-30.04.2022. In the study, the data were collected with a questionnaire consisting of 5 parts (Descriptive Information Form, Gratitude Scale, Postoperative Recovery Index, Short Form of McGill Paın Questionnaıre, Postoperative Evaluation). Independent Sample t-Test, One-Way Analysis of Variance (ANOVA), Pearson Correlation Analysis were used to analyze the data. Findings: A statistically significant difference (p<0,05) was found between the gender and social support status of the patients and their Gratitude Scale total score averages. It has been found that there is a significant negative correlation between Gratitude Scale and 0-2. days Postoperative Recovery İndex the subscales of this scale, which are respectively; Phychological Symptoms, Physical Activities, General Symptoms, Appetite Symptoms and Total Score (respectively: r=-,384, p=0,000; r=-,284, p=0,008; r=-,274, p=0,011; r=-,34,8, p=0,001; r=-,371, p=0,000). It has been found that there is a significant negative correlation between Gratitude Scale and 15-30. days Postoperative Recovery İndex the subscales of this scale, which are respectively; Phychological Symptoms, Physical Activities, Appetite Symptoms and Total Score (respectively: r=-,316, p=0,003; r=-,238, p=0,028; r=-,337, p=0,002; r=-,294 p=0,006). It has been found that there is a significant negative correlation between A statistically Gratitude Scale and both the 24th and 48th hour Mcgill Pain Scale Short Form (respectively: r=-,317, p=0,003; r=-,301, p=0,005). Conclusion: As a result of this research, it was seen that as the level of gratitude increased, postoperative recovery increased and postoperative pain decreased.
