Investigation of the attachment styles of women with unexplained infertility

Abstract (EN)

The unexplained infertility is explained by the situation seen in couples with not having pregnancy although they have unprotected sexual intercourse for one year. Although the cause of infertility can not be found, there are researches that try to reveal the cause of infertility. The attachment styles is a concept that can be related to people's psychological and physiological health conditions. Because attachment styles in childhood can affect the life of individuals in adult life. In this context, it is considered that the attachment styles in childhood may be related to unexplained infertility. In this context, the aim of this study was to determine the attachment style between women with caregivers in their own childhood and to determine the relationship between the attachment style and the unexplained infertility of women who had no medical problems in their spouses or in their own. Parental Bonding Instrument and Adult Attachment Scale were applied to 41 female participants who participated in the study and the data were analyzed with SPSS package program. As a result of the study, it has been found that women who had unexplained infertility problems showed more insecure and avoidant attachment characteristics compared to women who did not have infertility problem. On the other hand, when the adult attachment levels were taken into consideration, it was determined that the women who had unexplained infertility problems showed more insecure, avoidant and anxious attachment characteristics than the women who did not have infertility problem.
