The changing course of the Justice and Development Party's Cyprus policy over time

The main purpose of this thesis is to reveal the view of the Justice and Development Party (AKP) on the Cyprus problem, in which policies it implemented the change, and the change in these policies over time. AKP has declared that it will implement policies different from the traditional policies of the state regarding Cyprus with its coming to power. United Nations (UN) Secretary General Annan's Annan Plan, which aims to make the candidate a member of the European Union (EU) as a whole, was accepted by the Turkish Cypriots and rejected by the Greek Cypriots, and despite this result, the Greek Cypriot Administration (GCA) became a member of the European Union. The fact that Turkey was accepted as the sole legitimate representative of the island, and the continued isolation of the Turkish Cypriots for decades, and then the suspension of Turkey's accession negotiations to the EU largely on the grounds of the Cyprus problem, was the end of the new Cyprus policy implemented by the AKP. In the face of the aforementioned "win-win" policies implemented by the AKP regarding Cyprus, the Greek Cypriot Administration saw the problem as a "zero-sum game" and aimed not to share the opportunities that the EU would provide for Cyprus with the Turkish Cypriots. As a result of these developments, AKP, which brought new openings to the Cyprus problem, abandoned its policies on Cyprus and returned to its old traditional Cyprus policy.
