ABSTRACT MSc THESIS AN INVESTIGATION TO DETERMINE EXISTENCE LEVEL OF AMMONIA AND HYDROGEN SULPHIDE GASES IN THE POULTRY HOUSE COMPAND5S IN ADANA AND ITS AROUND ÎLKERÖNER DEPARTMENT OF AGRICULTURAL MACHINERY INSTITUTE OF NATURAL AND APPLIED SCIENCES UNIVERSITY OF ÇUKUROVA Supervisor : Prof Dr. Yılmaz YILDIZ Year : 2001, Pages : 76 Jury : Prof. Dr. Yılmaz YILDIZ Prof Dr. Serdar ÖZTEKÎN Prof. Dr. Nazım ULUOCAK This study was conducted to determine changing concentration of ammonia and hydrogen sulfid gases depending on time in two types poultry houses around Adana. In this investigation, ammonia and hydrogen sulfid concentration were measured in six different poultry houses. Temperature and humidity in poultry houses were also measured. According to the results of this study, no hydrogen sulfid was determined. Ammonia gase in poultry house in A company, varied from 1 to3 ppm and from 1 to4ppm in winter and summer seasons, respectively. Ammonia gase in poultry house in B company, varied from 2 to 10 ppm at up level and from 1 to S ppm at flour level in winter seasons. It also varied from 4 to 12 ppm at up level and from 0 to 5 ppm at flour level in summer season. In poultry house in C company, it varied from 3 to 4 ppm at up level and from 2 to 3 ppm at flour level in winter season. It also varied from 1 to 5 ppm at up level and from 1 to 3 ppm at flour level in summer season. Obtained values of ammonia gase were found under the critical level for animals. In poultry house in D company, ammonia gase in winter season varied from 10 to 17 ppm, and this value is closed to critical level. In summer season, no measurement was done in poultry house in D company because of the stopped activity of production in summer season. In poultry house in E company, it varied from 4 to 12 ppm in summer seasons, although closed to critical level, under this level. Ammonia gase was higher in winter season than the summer season. In poultry house in F company, concentration of ammonia gase varied from 6 to 16 ppm and it was found under the critical level. No measurement was done in poultry house in F company because of the stopped activity of production in summer season. When poultry houses were evalueted together, ammonia concentration in poultry house with battery cages was found lower than poultry house with litter. It was assumed that this difference could from different types of poultry houses and vantilation systems. The result of this study indicated mat, the oder gases should taken in to consideration when vantilation systems in poultry houses are clearly projected. Key words : Poultry house, odor gases, ammonia, hydrogen sulfid. II
