Determination of behavioral risk factors in yuregir district of Adana city

ABSTRACTDetermination of Beavioral Risk Factors in Yuregir District of Adana CityIn this study we researched health related behavioral risk factors in 18 years old andabove adults living in Yuregir district of Adana city. We used 'telephone interview' method asa research tool. We determined our sample from the household telephones in Yuregir districtby 'stratified random sampling'. The questionnaire that we used in our study was modifiedfrom the questionnaire especially designed to conduct by telephone interview which is used inUnited States during 'Behavioral Risk Factor Surveillance System' research. During theinterviews we used CATI system (CATI = Computer Assisted Telephone Interviewing) whileasking the questions and recording the data. The CATI system that we used during samplingand collecting the data was based on "Uysal WebQ 1.0" software. The interviews weconducted in 'Telephone and Internet Research Center of Cukurova University' and werecompleted in 682 persons succesfully.71,3% of the sample were between 18-44 years old. Mean age was 37,67±11,62.10,6% of the people were doing regular physical acitivity. The smoking prevalance was foundas 31,7%. Alcohol consumption prevalance was 29% in men and 0% in women. 5,6% of theresponders mentioned that they had asthma diagnosis, and 6,3% of the responders answeredthat they were diabetic. 57,8% of the sample have answered that they lost one or more of theirteeth because of tooth decay.The results of our study were similar with those which have been done previously. Ourstudy showed that in the field studies which were designed to conduct on a large area and toreach large number of people telephone interview method have not only advantages for costand time but also provide reliable data as well.Keywords: Yüreğir, behavioral risk factors, telephone interview,computer assisted telephone interviewing
