Prof. Dr. Hakan GÜNEYLIn this study, highway landslide were investigated and the nearest highway ofAdana-Mersin where was seen landslide were chosen to determine. In the highwayof 45th and 58th kilometres where was observed landslides and probable landslidesarea were studied.Firstly, along the highway route were searched to investigate the observedand probably landslides. Observed landslides area were determined and secondly thelandslides area photographs and undistributed soil samples were taken in order tostudy in laboratory. The geological and geotechnical properties of Güvenç formationwhere was occurred landslides along the highway were investigated. Necessary datafor this study have been obtained, after evaluating both the field and laboratory data.Therefore, landslide mechanism and environmental effects and necessarymeasurements and need to be taken were investigated using computer analysis in theoffice.At the end of the study, results showed that excessive rainfall causingsaturation of the units and pore pressure increase and effective pressure decrease as aresult, as well as dip direction and dip of highway slopes and rock massdiscontinuities played a major role in these highway landslides.Keywords: Landslide, Adana-Mersin highway, Güvenç formation, Soil and rockmechanics, Improvement methods.
