Sarkophagus of Roman Imperial Period of Adana Museum

When the sarkophagi classified after the mass production in the Roman empire period, garland sarkophagi, friezes sarkophagi, columned sarkophagi, sarkophagi with tabula ansata, crate sarkophagi, fluted sarkophagi, and semi fabricated sarkophagi, attract the attention.As well as Adana Museum Roman Empire sapkophagi being totally 20, mostly the examples of garlanded sarkophagi exist in these sarkophagi. Whereas one of these sarkophagi carries two garlands-a feature seen in Attica sarkophagi-the rest are three garlanded, appropriate for the Anatolian tradition. Apart from this, there are columned, frieze and crate sarkophagi examples among them. Moreover, wholly or partly semi fabricated sarkophagi, exist, too.Whereas the marble ones of the Adana Museum Roman Empire period sarkophagi were imported from huge sarkophagi plants manufacturing in the Roman period of Anatolia, non-marbles were produced by local and explorer masters. The issued sarkophagi shows an association about the dating criteria with the other sarkophagi found in other areas of the Roman Empire.
